Blessed on the tomb of Vladyka Vitaly

Fall, 2007

Beloved in Christ, Brothers and Sisters!

The joyous Seventieth Anniversary Celebration of the founding our beloved Temple dedicated to the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Great Prince Vladimir is approaching.

Many years have passed since the groundbreaking for this Church in 1938.  Innumerable throngs of pious Orthodox Christians, fleeing the hideous maelstrom visited upon their homeland by the God-hating Soviets, found calm haven and sanctuary here in America.  Inspired by the vision of the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly Maksimenko, many thousands of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents contributed sacrificially to the construction of the Memorial Church of Saint Vladimir.  Many of them labored with their own hands to build this splendid edifice as their legacy to us.

But the years have taken their toll on our precious Temple!  It has become urgently necessary to undertake the restoration of the exterior structure of the church building.  The current estimate for the completion of this task is nearly $200,000. We have begun by making major repairs to the roof this summer.  As faithful stewards of the holy Temple entrusted to us, we, the Board of Directors of the Saint Vladimir Society, have embarked on this work trusting in God’s blessing, and humbly asking the financial assistance of you, our beloved co-workers in the vineyard of Christ throughout the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Of Russia.

FOR YOUR GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION OF $25.00 OR MORE TOWARD THIS WORK, PLEASE ACCEPT A COPY OF OUR 70th ANNIVERSARY MEDALLION, A KEEPSAKE AND REMEMBRANCE OF THIS MILESTONE IN OUR HISTORY.

May God bless you for your kindness!

Archbishop Vitaly\'s (Maximenko) Spiritual Will

MY SPIRITUAL WILL

24 July / 6th August, 1956

Today, I together with you, just now have served Divine Liturgy. Most likely this is my last Divine Service in this world. For this reason, I decided to announce after it, this, MY SPIRITUAL WILL, under the name “VLADIMIR’S MOUNT”.

Vladimir’s Mount, where we yearly gather on a day to commemorate the great Russian King VLADIMIR, - this from now on is and for all following times, unalterably remains, THE GUIDING BEACON - THE LEADING BANNER in the historic march of THE CHOSEN RUSSIAN PEOPLE now in dispersion the world over.

Without this “BEACON-BANNER” - the CHOSEN RUSSIAN PEOPLE inevitably will scatter and be assimilated with the other peoples into “one universal people without their national identity,” as this once already was in ancient times before the building of the Babylonian tower, when all peoples were held together by earthly goods.

And is it not so today with the communists? It is so today under modern conditions when there is a renewed erection of a contemporary tower of Babylon by the godless communists. Lord God save us from their philosophy!

But as the “blessing of Abraham” was for the ancient chosen people, so also may this small wall banner save and guide from “Vladimir’s Mount” all who spiritually have sprung from the Root of Vladimir, the Father of the Russian Chosen People.

In memory of this, this Memorial Church on Vladimir’s Mount is being built.

MAY IT BECOME THE BEACON AND BANNER FOR ALL WHO HAVE THEIR GENESIS FROM THE ROOT OF VLADIMIR, NOW DISPERSED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

I have come to this faith following many years of quest.

In such faith departing, I do will to be buried after death (wherever I die) namely on Vladimir’s Mount, in the Vladimir Memorial Church, to have my remains (in body) brought to Vladimir’s Mount from the place of my death, in a wooden casket and place into an immured grave within Vladimir’s Memorial Church in a Sarcophagus.

I beg from all forgiveness and ask for your prayers.

All Russian Orthodox people I ask and adjure to belong to no other Church but only to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, headed by Metropolitan Anastassy and his lawful successor.

This will I decided to announce today after this Divine Service, which I now am fulfilling.

+ ARCHBISHOP VITALY
